Part A

Terms of Use

These terms apply when you use serialgifter.com ("Serial Gifter", "we", "us"). By using the site, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

1. About Serial Gifter

Serial Gifter is a gift discovery and recommendation service. You tell us who you're shopping for, the occasion, what they're into and your budget, and we suggest gifts that suit them, using these preferences and AI-assisted personalisation.

We don't sell or deliver the products we show. When you choose a gift, you buy it from the retailer or brand that sells it, on their website.

2. Our recommendations

Our suggestions are chosen for the person you describe: products are matched to your answers, and the reasons we give are written for that person. They're suggestions, not guarantees. You know your person best, and tastes, sizes, allergies and suitability vary.

We use AI to rank products and to write the short descriptions and reasons on each card. That writing can occasionally get a detail wrong, so please check anything important (ingredients, materials, sizes, age suitability, delivery dates) on the retailer's page before you buy.

3. Buying from retailers

When you click a product, you go to a third-party website such as Amazon India, a brand's own online shop, or another retailer. Your purchase takes place there, and that retailer is the seller you contract with, not Serial Gifter. The retailer is responsible for:

  • prices, payments and invoices;
  • shipping and delivery;
  • returns, refunds and cancellations;
  • product quality, safety and warranties;
  • customer support for your order.

Their own terms and policies apply to your purchase. Nothing in these terms reduces the rights you have as a consumer under Indian law.

4. Affiliate links and sponsored placements

Serial Gifter is free to use. To keep it that way, we may earn money in two ways:

  • Affiliate links. Some product links earn us a small commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. These links are marked "Affiliate link" next to the button. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
  • Sponsored placements. Brands can pay to appear in our featured strip and in "Sponsored picks". These are always labelled "Sponsored".

How our recommendations are chosen: the gift finder picks from products in our catalogue that fit your budget and the person you describe, and ranks them for that person. Whether a link earns a commission is not part of how products are ranked, and sponsored placements are shown separately from the recommendations, not mixed into them. Products marked "Our pick" are ones Serial Gifter has chosen by hand; some of them may carry affiliate links.

Amazon and other retailers don't sponsor, approve or endorse Serial Gifter.

5. Product information

Product names, photos, prices and availability come from the brands' and retailers' websites. For most brands we read this information once a day, so it can change before you click. The price, stock and details on the retailer's site at checkout are the ones that apply. "Gift idea" cards open a store search, and the prices shown on them are estimates.

6. Using the site fairly

Please use Serial Gifter for what it's for. Don't:

  • use it for fraud or anything unlawful;
  • upload or send malicious code, or try to break, overload or get around its security;
  • try to access parts of the site, systems or data you're not allowed to;
  • send large volumes of automated requests or scrape the site (we limit how many searches can be run in a short time);
  • enter other people's personal information that you aren't entitled to share. A first name or a hobby is fine; contact details, health information or anything sensitive isn't needed and shouldn't be entered.

7. Intellectual property

The Serial Gifter name, wordmark, design, and our own writing and code belong to Serial Gifter. Please don't copy them for commercial use without permission.

Product photos, brand names, logos and trademarks shown on the site belong to their owners and are used to show you their products.

8. Availability and changes

We work to keep Serial Gifter running smoothly, but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free or uninterrupted. Features, brands and recommendations may change, and we may pause or stop parts of the service.

9. Limitation of liability

Serial Gifter is provided as a free discovery service. To the extent the law allows:

  • we aren't responsible for products, orders, deliveries or services provided by retailers or brands, or for their websites;
  • we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the site;
  • we don't give warranties about the site beyond those the law requires.

Nothing here excludes or limits any liability, or any of your rights, that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including consumer protection law.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. This doesn't take away any protection you have under mandatory laws that apply to you, or your right to use the consumer dispute forums available to you.

11. Changes and contact

We may update these terms as Serial Gifter grows. When we do, we'll change the "last updated" date at the top of this page; important changes will be made clear on the site. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the new terms.

Part B

Privacy Policy

The short version: Serial Gifter has no accounts, no sign-up forms and no cookies. To suggest gifts, we use the answers you give about the person you're shopping for. We don't ask for your name, email or phone number, and we don't sell information about you.

1. What we collect

Your gift-finder answers. When you search, we receive:

  • who the gift is for (for example "a friend" or "my mom"), and optionally "him" or "her";
  • the occasion;
  • their interests: options you pick, plus any short keywords you type (up to 8, each a few words long);
  • your budget range;
  • any refinements you choose, such as "More unusual" or "Less expensive".

These answers describe the recipient in general terms; we don't ask for anyone's name or contact details. Please don't type personal or sensitive information into the keywords box.

Technical information. Like any website, our servers receive your IP address and basic browser information (such as browser type) when your device loads a page.

Usage information. We measure how the site is used: pages visited, and which gifts, brands and buttons are clicked, along with the type of recipient and occasion of that search. See Cookies and analytics.

Emails you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write.

We don't collect payment details. Purchases happen on retailers' websites, under their own privacy policies.

2. How we use it

  • To find gift recommendations that fit your answers, and to apply any refinements you ask for.
  • To run the site: show pages, share "Drop a hint" links, and keep the service reliable and fast.
  • To prevent abuse, for example limiting how many searches one connection can run per hour.
  • To understand, in aggregate, which features and gifts are useful, so we can improve the site and our catalogue.
  • To show brands, in aggregate, how many visitors and clicks we sent them. This is counts only, never who you are.
  • To reply when you contact us.

3. How AI is used

To pick and describe your gifts, your gift-finder answers (the list in section 1) are sent, together with a shortlist of products, to an AI model provided by Anthropic (Claude), through Anthropic's API. Anthropic processes this to produce the recommendations, under its commercial terms. Those terms state that Anthropic doesn't use data sent through its API to train its models, and that it keeps it only for a limited period. See Anthropic's privacy policy for details.

We don't send your IP address, analytics data or any contact details to the AI service.

4. Storage and retention

  • No accounts or database of searches. We don't save your answers or recommendation history to a database, and we don't build a profile of you.
  • Search results are cached. Your answers form part of the results page's web address. To keep the site fast and affordable, our hosting provider (Vercel) caches the results for each combination of answers for up to about 7 days. The cache isn't linked to who you are, and anyone who runs the same search sees the same results.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical logs of requests (such as page addresses, times and IP addresses) to run and secure the service, as described in Vercel's privacy policy.
  • Abuse limits. To limit searches per hour, our server briefly holds your IP address in memory, for about an hour. It isn't written to storage.
  • Analytics are kept by our analytics providers as aggregated statistics (see section 6).
  • Emails you send us are kept in our inbox for as long as needed to reply and follow up. You can ask us to delete them.
  • Shared links. If you share a results or "Drop a hint" link, it contains your answers or the product, and is visible to whoever you send it to.

5. Who else is involved

We don't sell your information. We use these service providers to run Serial Gifter:

  • Vercel hosts the website, runs our servers and stores our product catalogue. It processes requests, IP addresses and logs.
  • Anthropic provides the AI model that ranks and describes gift recommendations (see section 3).
  • Vercel Web Analytics and Umami measure visits and clicks (see section 6).
  • Google Fonts: our fonts are loaded from Google's servers, so your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address and browser information.
  • Brand websites: product photos are loaded from the brands' own image servers (for example Shopify), which receive standard request information from your browser.

When you click through to a retailer, we don't tell them who you are. Our links are set so the retailer isn't told which Serial Gifter page you came from. Links do include Serial Gifter's own tracking tags (for example "utm_source=serialgifter", or our Amazon Associates tag), so the retailer knows the visit came from Serial Gifter. From that point, the retailer's own privacy policy applies.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

6. Cookies and analytics

Serial Gifter doesn't set cookies, and our public pages don't store anything in your browser's local storage.

We use two cookie-free analytics tools:

  • Vercel Web Analytics counts page views.
  • Umami counts page views and clicks on things like "Shop now", "Drop a hint" and sponsored tiles, with details of what was clicked (brand, product, position on the page) and the recipient type and occasion of that search.

Neither uses cookies, and we use them to see overall patterns, not to identify you. Retailers' and brands' websites may use their own cookies once you visit them.

7. Your rights

Under Indian law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 as its provisions come into force, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal data we hold about you and how it's used;
  • correct or update it;
  • delete it;
  • stop using it where you've given consent, by withdrawing that consent.

You can also raise a complaint or grievance with us. Email our email address with your request. We'll reply as soon as we can, and in any case within the time the law requires. Because we don't keep accounts or link searches to people, we usually hold very little that identifies you, and we may need some details from you to find anything. You may also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

8. Security

The site is served only over secure, encrypted connections (HTTPS). Our admin area is password-protected, access to our systems is limited, and searches are rate-limited to prevent abuse. No website can be perfectly secure, but we take care to protect the information we handle.

9. Children

Serial Gifter is meant for adults shopping for gifts. If you're under 18, please use it with a parent or guardian. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children.

You can, of course, shop for a child: choosing "a little human" as the recipient, along with their interests, is a general description and doesn't identify them. Please don't enter a child's name or other identifying details.

10. Processing outside India

Some of our service providers process information outside India: Anthropic (AI) and Google (fonts) operate mainly from the United States, and Vercel and Umami run on servers in several regions. Where information leaves India, it does so to provide the service, under those providers' safeguards and in line with Indian law.

11. Changes and contact

If we change how we handle information, we'll update this policy and the "last updated" date at the top. If we ever want to use your information in a significantly different way, we'll make that clear on the site first.

For privacy questions, requests or complaints, email our email address.

Some links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
